Working late has become the norm. The art of ‘leaving’ on time doesn’t happen just like that, in fact, It starts way before the workday by building up a psychological commitment to departure time and planning your tasks accordingly to make it happen.

Control the skills of time management
We came across a study conducted by the Harvard Business Review states that if you work more than 40 hours a week it could make you less productive, slow and, put you at risk of making more mistakes, which ultimately creates an impression of poor time-management skills. So let’s first start by understanding the fundamental rule that You have set work hours for a reason, irrespective of your position. It is crucial that you accommodate and complete all the essential things in the given hours. Make sure to finish everything within the stipulated time, and in case your current setup isn’t helping you seek a change.
Anticipate the things that will take most of your hours and start working on them backward. There will be days where you can’t complete everything you have planned, and that’s ok, but if it’s happening every day, then it’s essential that you take a check on it.
Work is obviously a never-ending process, and you should stop trying to get everything done in a day.
Take note of the leaks.
Every day if you’re getting out of your office late then there can be various things that may be slowing you down during office hours. This could be talkative colleagues, noisy workspaces, shortfall of pre-defined work expectations, the thirst to take many short breaks, avoidable meetings, etc. Think & understand your priorities. If these recurrent workplace distractions are actually stopping you from reaching your objectives, then it’s about time you stop it.
Snip your chit-chat breaks and, find a space to work peacefully without any diversion, move away from those meetings and discussions that don’t concern you. Recognize these issues and fix them before they become a part of your schedule and delay your tasks further.
Discover the magic formula
Some days are incredibly productive whereas some others may seem too dull and slow. Identify the days that work for you and understand why it works. Try to find those elements and replicate them on to the other days.
Apply a pattern that works for you and voila you are half way there to going home on time.
Keep your word
We often see managers saying that they do not want their employees and people to work past 6 or 7. But just so often you get an email from them at midnight that talks about jobs that need to be completed on the spot because the client requires it urgently. As a manager, it is important that you maintain a good conversation with your clients and let them know that the team has left for the day. Understand that your employees have a life of their own. Build a culture that gives them a chance to love their job and contribute to their mental well being better regardless of workload.
